She Smiled
She smiled for the first time
in a secondhand skirt and dollar-store lipstick.
She smiled for the first time,
finally seeing some gleam of herself.
A tiny fire, delicately tended, slowly fed…
time and again so casually snuffed.
But the embers remain, for her,
to breathe into fiery wings:
a phoenix of liberatory joy,
MAY HER SMILE SHAKE THE PILLARS OF THE WORLD!!!
